Active Discovery Scripts for no instances datasources

Recommended Posts

I think it would be really helpful if we could utilize active discovery scripts and what not for cases where there is no instances per se.

The "applies to" is simply too inflexible to be used as the sole discovery method.  For example, simply checking for the existence of a WMI class would be a great way to ensure we're only applying a data source to devices where that datasource apply.

You can do this with propertysources that add a category to devices.  The only problem with those is you have no control over how often they run, but at least now you can trigger them on demand (manually).

Thanks @mnagel -- this is indeed the recommended approach.

And yes, we're working on getting a frequency scheduler attached to PropertySources. Coming soon....
